Rubb Glossary of Terms

Axial Steel - Tubular steel bolted between trusses that carries tension and compression loads to the bracing cables.

Break-Bulk Storage - The storage of packaged cargo that is marked for individual consignees and has to be loaded and unloaded piece by piece.

Bulk Storage - The storage of a large quantity of loose material, such as sand, salt, grain or dry chemicals.

Clear Span - The horizontal measurement between the points where a span connects to the foundation.

Crane Liftable - Ability to attach an external set of cables to a structure so it can be lifted with a crane and repositioned around a jobsite.

Customer Service/Response - Rubb, Inc has built its reputation on fair and prompt handling of customer service requests. This is one reason why 80% of Rubb's business comes from repeat customers.

Differential Settlement - When ground settles unevenly. This can have a negative effect on structures with rigid cladding, and requires a stronger foundation design to resist the settlement.

Fire Safety - The flame-retardant membrane covering a Rubb structure will dissipate away in a fire, allowing the building to self-vent and giving easy access for fire-fighting crews.

Flexibility - A Rubb building can be expanded, relocated, divided and reconfigured.

Frame Supported - When the cladding membrane is tensioned over the structural frame. This means that if the integrity of the cladding is compromised the strength of the building is not affected.

Life Safety - All structures are designed to national life safety and building codes. This includes requirements for wind and snow loads, safety factors based upon occupancy, and egress requirements in case of emergency.

Post Fabrication Hot Dip Galvanized - Steel components are dipped in corrosion-resistant molten zinc after they have been manufactured, ensuring that all holes, welds and unseen surfaces are protected.

PVC Coated Polyester - A sheet of waterproof membrane formed by coating a base material of high-strength woven polyester fibers with ultraviolet-resistant polyvinylchloride (PVC) on both sides.

PVC Folding Door - A simple hand-operated large equipment door in the end of a Rubb shelter.

Rapid Deployment Shelter (RDS) - A strong lightweight shelter consisting of a steel or aluminum frame with PVC cladding. These can be interlinked for housing, storage, and operations.

Rapid Erect Hangar (REH) - A steel truss hangar designed for higher snow loads than most aluminum frame structures. A high percentage of interchangeable parts ensures easy erection without the use of heavy equipment.

Rapid Erect Shelter (RES) - A high grade aluminum frame and fabric membrane hangar designed to accommodate individual fixed or rotary wing aircraft. Can be built on difficult terrain to achieve a maximum state of readiness. Supplied in kit form to be erected without special skills or tools and ships in one 20' ISO container.

Relocatable - The ability to disassemble a structure and ship it to a different location with minimal loss of materials.

Space Truss - A three-dimensional structural component that is used to carry the loads from one or more spans across a wide opening

Tensioned Membrane - A continuous sheet of material stretched uniformly over a structural frame, and anchored to the foundation around the perimeter

Translucent Membrane - A material that allows a portion of natural daylight to pass through it, resulting in reduced need for interior lighting during the daytime.

Top Coating - An additional material applied to the inside or outside of a membrane that enhances it appearance or chemical resistance.
