The three letter acronyms for our product lines go back to the origin of Rubb Building Systems. Since the company originated in Norway, the original structures are acronyms of Norwegian words.
TH, which most people have always translated as "Tent House" or "Tent Hall", really stands for Tent Heeling, as the sidewalls of this shelter are heeled or slanted. The later developed TV shelters had vertical sidewalls.
Decades ago, Rubb Buildings started producing more robust structures. The NV acronym was used for a building design that originated in Norway and had vertical sidewalls (not slanted like on the TV designated buildings). Norway Vertical or NV became the designation for any vertical sidewalled building.
When Rubb expanded into the UK, they designed a different profile (less rounded) called the BVC (British design, Vertical sidewall). Here, the 3rd letter was a size designation: "C" structures were smaller spans, "E" were larger, and "L" were the largest. These letters could also apply to the angle of the uppermost roof truss: BVC's usually have a 10° or 15° peak roof, BE is 8° or 16°, and BVL's have 7°. Recently, Rubb UK developed a building based on rectangular tube, called the BVR.
When Rubb expanded to the US, the US design team experimented with some new product designs. The AVL [American Vertical] shelter has a 7.5° peak pitch, giving it a profile between the NV and BVL. Also developed were the AVS (Single-slope roof), the AVI (I-beam construction), and AVC (an unidentified TLA [three letter acronym]).
THA, is the TH building explained above, with the addition of the letter A designating the high-leg version and a THB is the designation for the short-leg model.
Most recent projects that have been developed for the Military have meaningful acronyms. The REH is the Rapid Erect Hangar, RDS is the Rapid Deployment Shelter and the RES is the Rapid Environmental Shelter.
As Rubb continues to develop new buildings and shelters, our primary focus will be on providing the best possible solutions for our clients while keeping the naming of these structures as a secondary concern. No matter what acronym is used, your new Rubb Building will reflect the design and manufacturing excellence that has made Rubb the industry benchmark for quality, durability and innovation.
